this beta character wipe makes me realize what I'm really looking for in an mmorpg is all the end game content and approximately 0% of the stuff that exists simply bc that's what rpgs have always done, e.g., leveling and questing and crafting

In a MMO we can't meaningful impact the world which means leveling/questing.... who cares? Its just mandatory content that everyone does. With mplus/raiding its a way of 'advancing' and making your char unique.

Here's a good idea for a poll for someone with an actual audience. Would you play the game more or less if when you created characters they started at Max level?

100%, if i could just create characters and start at max level immediately I would put more time into other classes/explore more gameplay options.

WoW is build around end game content so it seems pretty logic. Not all mmorpg are. Have a look at

I can understood where you're coming from but, for others like myself I enjoy the world and leveling bits all the same otherwise I'd just play another MMORPG.
