    Even if you are 100% cash, you're still 100% long the financial system. Owning is one path towards moving outside this system, and hedge against systemic risks (see 2008 banking crisis, 2011 European sovereign crisis and 2018 EM currency crisis).

    To be quite honest, is pretty cool. A lot of it is quite confusing, but so was Bitcoin at first. I tend to think there is room to be excited by both without getting into the philosophical tug-of-war between the two camps. Would be awesome to see both groups work together!

    If I could only own one asset for the next 10 years, it would be bitcoin It encapsulates all of my larger macro views and feels like the point on the far horizon we are headed to, in some shape or form. Yes, like gold too and many other things but BTC risk/reward beats all.

    “Fundamentals” & “intrinsic value” are misused. All investing is speculation based on what it is worth to someone else, or what action another player will take. Just b/c the market doesn’t yet agree on a valuation technique doesn’t mean it has no value.

    I enjoyed this article even though I disagree with the conclusion & the pettiness. But the last paragraph includes “in a market w/ no fundamentals”. If anything, BTC has more fundamentals than any other investable asset because actually has defined, rigid rules.

    Most people today probably still think of cryptocurrency as funny money, or a speculative asset class. But I believe we're going to see this perspective flip, probably starting with young people as with many things, where holding a government's currency is seen as funny money.

    4) DeFi is very far away from traditional investor's wheelhouses, & there isn't much investable in this space yet anyway. DeFi makes sense to non-crypto investors at a broad level (removing middlemen, unbanked, etc), but that isn't translating into flows yet.

    3) I disagree w/ here though: While true that no one cares about , , , , etc; growth is happening from traditional II's is in verticals/strategies that they understand - for example Distressed / Value / Event investing )

    2) Second, II's invest in what they understand. a) - been around for 10 yrs, so II's now "know" it or at least feel most comfortable w/ it b) VC funds - crypto VC funds are no different than non-crypto VC funds (investing in early stage equity via known structures)

    1) Agree w/ but for different reasons First, crypto "fund managers" rarely talk to actual institutional investors. LPs who were already in crypto & simply recycled & profits into crypto funds are not representative of true II's (Pensions, endowments, etc)

    IMHO this is one of the biggest misconceptions in crypto. I was just at an investor dinner with multiple fund managers and someone was talking about how DeFi surprisingly resonates with institutional LPs, many of whom are *extremely* tired of hearing about Digital Gold.

    Friendly reminder that a Bitcoin halving is an emission shock, not a supply shock. Effects should be felt over a longer time frame - don't expect immediate impulse moves in May 2020.
