    A pregnancy fact I didn't know until extremely recently is that by the time you miss your period, you are already 4, and likely 5, weeks pregnant. Which seems like a key fact to understanding these 6-week abortion bans.

    It's the political analogy to "not a racist bone in my body." It signals "those people will never be satisfied" rhetoric that whips up base, activates idea of them self as moral, nice bigots. Draws bright red line around identity politics of the base.

    Honest question: why are Republicans, who have almost no African-American support, constantly talking about black unemployment rates? Trump and his followers (Rep. Gaetz just did it) never stop talking about it.

    I didn't vote for Trump, but calling 63 million people things like "cult", "deplorable", etc. is a big part of the reason why he won enough states to become president.

    Are there any techniques to reset your mind so you can feel as shocked/angry/sad about the daily onslaught of horrible news as you know you should? Serious question. I know it's not pleasant or required to be upset but sometimes (like every day) it seems appropriate and human.

    This barely dented the news cycle yesterday. We can’t let this start to feel normal. We can’t let ourselves become numb to the deaths of our children.

    An 18-year-old senior, who has been identified as Kendrick Castillo, was just 3 days from graduation when he was shot and killed at STEM School Highlands Ranch yesterday. Eight others were injured in the shooting.

    Not only that, but some states considering 6-week bans require two visits to a clinic w/ a waiting period in between. So even if you knew IMMEDIATELY that you were pregnant, you'd have maybe 10 days to get into a clinic (possibly many miles away) — twice. They're complete bans.

    “6 weeks pregnant” = 2 weeks late on your period. Most of the men writing these bills don’t know the first thing about a woman’s body outside of the things they want from it. It’s relatively common for a woman to have a late period + not be pregnant. So this is a backdoor ban.
