As a life-long Evangelical, there's so much I could say about that. I'm in the position of having the same faith, yet I don't want anything to do with my own demographic anymore.

Thanks, it's been quite the identity shift to grapple with. It's quite a loss. What we're seeing in the Ev. world was always there as a potential, but now it's fully lived out as the reality. Trump is what is being worshipped now (political power), instead, of, well, God.

I remember the good old days, when the word evangelical didn’t mean crazy nitwit. At least I didn’t think it did when I was in the church. The group is so lost I can no longer identify with them, and I doubt it will change in 10 years.

In the wake of 2016, I went over my 39 years of Ev. memories and tried to find the roots. The potential was always there. It was a disappointing but illuminating realization. I experienced a great deal of good growing up in it, but the bad has overtaken so much of it now.

How many of said bibles spontaneously burst into flames

Sorry friend. I just can’t joke about denying Jesus is the Son of God. Certainly there are better things to joke about than the crucifixion.

I took it more as a joke about our president belittling personal sacrifice.

Sorry. I’m not a TV news watcher. I’m firing the tweets off and forgetting. Recognizing that these include survivors presumably of the tornado in AL. I just want to say. I’m sorry for their loss and the wish them the best as they struggle to remake their community.

Not sure I’d say that. I should have taken a look at the context of the picture/tweet more carefully. Their situation is lamentable l, even if asking Trump to sign a bible is absurd.
