Recent local 'joint report' by several NC outlets tried to suggest May 1 reopening was causing a gain in NC Hospitalization. Leading up to the Floyd protests which began on 5/29, hospitalizations were dropping: 5/27 - 702 5/28 - 708 5/29 - 680 5/30 - 638 5/30 - 649 6/1 - 650

Data for the last month for NC shows hospitalizations began a sustained gradual climb starting with a 58 patient spike on 6/5, from 659 on June 4 to 717 6/5. On 6/16 hospitalizations jumped up again by 32, from 797 on 5/16 to 829 on 6/16....

... This spike was the beginning of a steady increase the state would see for the next two weeks through 6/27. There would be one drop between 6/20 and 6/21 of 38, from 883 to 845 before it began climbing again to 870 on 6/22. The highest point was 6/23, with 915.

NOTE: Only one day since reporting began on March 15 has NCDHHS had 100% of hospitals reporting for hospitalizations, regular bed, ICU beds and ventilators.

June 27 - 888 hospitalized with 90% of hospitals reporting. WHERE are they hospitalized? Ages? Are they nursing home transfers? How long have they been there? NCDHHS has refused to offer this data.

On beds, how many are COVID for Regular vs ICU? NCDHHS does not make that distinction either. 6/27 - 90% of Hospitals reporting 21,222 reg. hospital beds; 14,660 in use w/ 2,257 "unreported." That leaves capacity of 6,562: 4,305 empty beds, 2,257 not in use.

6/27 cont'd 3,223 ICU beds total with 798 "unreported." -1,779 ICU in use, 798 "unreported." -646 empty, 798 "unreported." Again, no idea how many are COVID patients.

6/27 cont'd 21222 reg. + 3223 ICU = 24,445 TOTAL Beds 888 COVID patients out of total beds is a rate of .36% 75% of apparently 3,200 ventilators are still available. What surge are we talking about here? The current surge is NON-COVID use.

Meanwhile, the nursing home case rates & death rates have been steady; 60-63%. 80% of deaths have been in persons ages 65+. There are questions to be asked, but Cooper has hidden behind virtual briefings, cherrypicking who gets called on for around 97 days.
