Many Republican Senators want me to Veto the FISA Bill until we find out what led to, and happened with, the illegal attempted “coup” of the duly elected President of the United States, and others!

But many more sensible Republicans think that the threat of losing effective counterterrorism measures should never be used as leverage in a negotiation, especially when the Justice Department is already probing 2016-17 investigative abuses.

Andy, are there a lot of political issues worse than one party using the FBI & CIA to spy on the presidential candidate of thre opposing political party?

John, no one, you included, has been more on fire about that than I have. This is not about fixing that. Those who say it is are dishonest or mistaken. This is about preserving 3 commonsense tools that help good agents stop jihadists from mass-murdering Americans.

Understand: If FBI is monitoring a real jihadist plotting against US, and jihadist throws away his burner phone, what’s at stake right now is losing surveillance to pursue ‘reform’ that won’t stop FISA abuse or hold anyone accountable, but will enhance due process for jihadists.

Andy, your speech was galvanizing: If people can’t be held accountable for the abuse of this authority, the authority can’t be allowed to exist. President should veto, followed by a 90-day clean reauthorization. By then we’ll know.
