pre* and post* are nice for limited use (eg prepublish to test+build and postpublish to deploy) but get unwieldy fast in my experience.
More maintainable to move logic into external Node scripts that can be run via package scripts for convenience.
But If you also have preprefoo and try to run prefoo it doesn't run preprefoo before prefoo because 
pre and post are great. Only challenge we've found relying on them is making sure exit codes allow them all to run vs stopping the flow

Imo the prefix should be 'pre-' and 'post-'. Easier to read and @left_pad would have never run into the post CSS issue. Nice feature though.
I assume "post"-fixes work the same way then?
