This article really spoke to me, especially as I think about how my writing career has been circuitous, isolating, & fraught given my working class background. I often find that middle & upper class writers have more sense of confidence & community.

It was one of the honors of my life to share the stage with @Lizzo and 16 other activists at the @PeoplesChoice Awards on behalf of @WeAreMPM. To see our mom-led movement for paid leave, child care & equal pay validated by one of the biggest artists in the world means everything.

“An electrifying, inspiring history of how countless American industries have exploited employees of marginalized backgrounds, and how these workers protected one another and fought back.” Love to see ’s FIGHT LIKE HELL included in ’s end of year faves!🎉

You likely know someone who died from opioids/drugs. I know of 16. 8 were friends. All from my hometown in NC. 11 months. Interviews with friends, families, and teachers. What overdoses did to my hometown from the listen, read, watch:

Betty Ford changed oncology in the 70s when she shared her cancer diagnosis & news of her mastectomy with the world. Back then women didn’t do that. Huge props to for talking about his vasectomy- may it inspire more men to consider their options.

After 10 months of learning about the procedure, @TonyDokoupil decided to get a vasectomy. He says he wanted to carry some of the burden of pregnancy prevention: “It was easy.”

Casey Johnston is the best fitness writer currently working and her work has been instrumental in helping me be kinder to myself, allow myself to rest, fuel my body, and view hard exercise as a gift, not a punishment. This book is gonna rule

The gratitude in Merwin’s “Thanks” feels honest and expansive to me. We can be grateful and grieving, grateful and disappointed, grateful and fed up. We can be grateful AND acknowledge what needs to change. Love—& thanks— x M
I revisit this Merwin poem on this day every year. 🙏

The last four lines:

“we are saying thank you faster and faster / with nobody listening we are saying thank you / we are saying thank you and waving / dark though it is”

🧵 (1/5) A few months ago I got a tip: A source told me that Elon Musk had "more children" than the public realized. So I did some reporting, and... it was true! He'd had twins with one of his employees. But I always felt like there was more to the story.

Ukraine has shown the world that freedom is worth dying for. We are a young democracy, but the values we stand for are so important that we aren't afraid to die for them. Ukraine is like birth;through all the pain& suffering, something new is born. This new thing will be beautiful
