If you still sort of hate sales: - learn to love it; or - go freemium Hiring a VP of Sales alone does >not< solve that problem. Because you won’t do what it takes so that she succeeds.

Your job is to find something you’re good at, and after ten thousand hours of practice, get great at it. The emotional and economic rewards that accompany being great at something will make you passionate about whatever “it” is.

Startups are hard. When you get punched in the face you are in pain. When you get knocked down, it hurts. It helps to spend time with other founders who have been down on the mat, because they also can help you get up for the next round. Keep fighting.

Nearly every entrepreneur I talk so says hiring is their biggest challenge. The world is starving for competent people with a strong work-ethic.

The key thing to remember is that when you’re pitching a startup that runs contrary to conventional wisdom (many of the great ones), it’s critical to think more like a salesperson, not a debate team captain. Investors need to be persuaded, not defeated. /13

A real conversation with a VC: "Your revenue and growth are amazing, but you don't have enough sales people for us to calculate sales efficiency so we can't invest" If you are capital efficient there is an entire class of investors that won't invest in you. Amazing.

The road to product market fit can be summarized as: - Ship new code - Have users try the product - Frantically fix bugs - Ask for brutal feedback - Monitor use till they churn - Learn why & write it down - Prioritize what prevents churn - Write code - Find new users - Repeat

At the end of each week I want to feel like I did everything I could to make my users happy. That’s what success feels like to me. When I don’t feel that way, I know there’s something I have to change.
