    V proud of this achievement: confirmed that unemployment will be 2m fewer than forecast last April. That's an entire recession's worth of job losses in 'normal times', avoided by our interventions. Economic challenges remain but this is very significant.

    Our Plan for Jobs is working – following the comprehensive package we put in place, almost 2 million fewer people are expected to be out of work than initially forecast, and the UK economy is in a strong position to grow quickly as we emerge from the pandemic.

    After yesterday's announcement of imminent lockdown easing, the PM continued on the front foot today with an ambitious inc Bills to tackle online harms; boost animal welfare & biodiversity; strengthen the NHS & our Armed Forces; & radically reform post-16 education.

    Delighted the PM has confirmed that we are moving to the next stage of lockdown easing on 17th May. We’ll be able to go to the pub indoors, visit museums & galleries, & go to the cinema. Most importantly, with care, we can hug our friends & loved ones.

    Thanks to all of the local residents, stakeholders & Parish Councils, who supported calls for the consultation to be paused. I will continue to work with MPs & Councillors to raise these concerns as we move into the formal consultation later this year.

    Particularly important to have the intervention from Lord Gardiner explaining that the need to protect our natural landscape from the impact of pylons does not just apply to AONBs.

    Great session on Friday with our excellent Hadleigh County Cllr candidate. He’s worked really hard for the town & that showed in the many v positive responses from passers by.

    Such heart wrenching scenes unfolding in India, so it’s important that we are sending out a major shipment of medical equipment to help, inc oxygen concentrators & ventilators.

    We stand side by side with India in the shared fight against COVID-19. Vital medical equipment is on its way from the UK to India to help stop the tragic loss of life from the virus and we’ll continue to work closely with the Indian government during this difficult time.
