Month-on-month change charts for economic indicators should be banned in a context like this. A 20.3% contraction followed by a 1.8% expansion is *anything but* a V-shaped recovery, yet the at-a-glance takeaway here is V. There's just no need to make this chart.pic.twitter.com/WeHMHEsWdn

Just show the series itself, not the change https://www.ft.com/content/da302766-b939-46ea-b11c-0f69510b0e2e … This is the real "shape" of the numberspic.twitter.com/UV6S6EBhL7

To be fair to RF they do show the continuous series chart as well 😀 but the monthly change one just doesn't serve any useful purpose, and may mislead for those who don't look closely.

When did they change the design of V?

          It’s not a V, it’s a reversed square root

They should call it a golf club recovery based on that image. And like my golf, the response from the driver looks rough

Totally agree with this! The @FT chart says 'rebased', but doesn't say what it's rebased to/by - any idea?
