Things to note: • Daily covid data is extremely noisy and implies false precision • This is why we use a rolling average. Watch for general trends. Focus on slopes, not specific daily numbers • Read Tuesday’s thread for more on thishttps://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1247666977566490626 …

NEW: Tue 7 April update of coronavirus trajectories Big changes here, so tonight’s thread will be fewer charts and more explanations. Here’s the revamped daily deaths chart. I’ve switched from a 7-day rolling average to true daily numbers* All charts: http://ft.com/coronavirus-latest … pic.twitter.com/oSvoKnKEMp

We’ve also changed our data sourcing recently. I’m no longer happy using Worldometers, so now sourcing all data directly from official country sources (health ministries etc). This takes longer, but given my concerns over data quality on covid, I think this is important.

And a chart showing why we're using absolute numbers rather than population-adjusted rates:https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1244380095164420101 …

A quick chart for those who keep asking for per-capita adjustment: Here’s population vs total death toll one week after 10th death. No relationship. As I’ve been saying, population does not affect pace of spread. All per-capita figures do is make smaller countries look worse. pic.twitter.com/yWsa4YNNxI
