Why not Jeff? Why can't my kids safely commute on their bikes or on foot in and around our neighbourhood? Why can't my neighbours and I enjoy the peace and quiet of a slower street? Why can't my kids play safely in front of my home?

If you don’t feel the built form of your neighbourhood is safe for your children, you might investigate to see if there is another one within your price range. Rather than a grid neighbourhood you might find areas with small bays or curl-de-sacs more to your liking.
Not just the children who live in houses on cul-de-sacs deserve to feel safe on their bikes. Are you seriously suggesting people living in older grid-style neighborhoods don't deserve safe streets? Also, not everyone can afford a house or to live in the suburbs. Yikes!

Kids do need somewhere safe to go to ride their bikes and to play. Not every street can reasonably provide that (What if you lived on Henderson Hwy?). Although it's technically against the law, nobody's going to mind a young child riding on a sidewalk.

So much wrong with this tweet. “The roads aren’t the problem, you are, so move!” Grids are actually more efficient and obviously in older neighborhoods, so people who choose to live in older core areas or can’t afford to live in suburbs should just suck it up. Got it.
