Check out our new work with , , and ! We show that hippocampal place cells remap in similar + predictable ways across rats. This challenges the standard view that place cell remapping is random. 🐀🧠🗺️ Preprint here:

"What's wrong with the minimal conception of innateness in cognitive science?" is forthcoming in Synthese. TL;DR: answer: nothing. Totally fine to just say innate = not learned.

New paper w , "Learning as the Unsupervised Alignment of Conceptual Systems". Supervised learning tasks can be solved by purely unsupervised means by exploiting correspondences across systems (e.g., text, images, etc.). 1/5

What makes a good lab? Are group meetings really the best way? In the we recently reexamined how we organize our weeks, and then redesigned everything in a systematic way (100% democratically!). I blogged about our design process and takeaways:

Very cool: Scientists give cuttlefish 3D glasses and shrimp films for vision study My wishlist now is for every species to have their own cute set of 3D glasses to study their stereovision

New paper out! We provide evidence that feedforward convnets (ffCNNs) cannot implement human-like global computations because of their *architecture*, and not merely because of the way they are *trained*.

Today marks one year on (Academic) Twitter. My review: "useful links to papers/preprints floating in a horrifying cesspool of poorly informed or bad-faith discourse occassionally lit ablaze by gaslighting and overt sexism or transmisogyny". 2/5 stars

A new paper from the lab, highly relevant for everyone doing vision work with rats using touchscreen devices. Also thumbs up for the team of VISION , which implemented a detailed peer review of much higher quality than many other more expensive open-access journals
