I would add that the “shrinking minority” of historians working in “pre-modern” fields is probably the result of capitalist economy leading universities to cut professors and even departments.

Have you heard about this new theorist, Marx? He has this new book "Das Kapital" about capitalism. I'm sure it won't result in any "history that matters" but might be of interest to dilettantes
