i know your whole thing is to be incredibly dishonest at all times, but you know as well as I do that the citizenship of black Americans was a live question for the first 80 years of the US, and varied depending on state and custom.https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1424722495366631424 …

moving the goal posts from “whether black people were citizens was a ‘different matter entirely’” meaning “it was an open question” to uh, “it was open question, this time with a citation”https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1424727534307004418 …

just a whole bunch of people who apparently do not know the difference between “this is the case” and “this ought to be the case” https://twitter.com/SpitzleyLuke/status/1424735181458579465 …

even by the standards of this website, turning “It was an open question whether the free black people of the United States were citizens” into “The free black people of the United States were not citizens and this was good and right” is pretty incredible.

I used to wonder the exact amount they actually believed vs what was Lib Triggering but I think putting that much thought into it is more than they have in any of their writing

Funny how “it’s totally fine to cancel presidential election results because of colonial era practices” guy is suddenly not interested in hearing the state of the laws as they existed in the early 19th century

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court discounted the citizenship of free blacks in a major decision, giving national effect to many existing laws, major political figures cheered him on. This proves the citizenship status of free blacks was secure and durable. I am a genius.

There's lots on this in Carol Anderson's new book "The Second," as well.
