i know your whole thing is to be incredibly dishonest at all times, but you know as well as I do that the citizenship of black Americans was a live question for the first 80 years of the US, and varied depending on state and custom.https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1424722495366631424 …

The entire idea of colonization — intended for free AND freed blacks — rested on the idea that blacks were not fully citizens of the country. Again, you know this, so cut this dumb shit out.

Also, “the citizenship status of free black people was unsettled” — a legal and historical *fact* — does not equal “Dred Scott was rightly decided.”

moving the goal posts from “whether black people were citizens was a ‘different matter entirely’” meaning “it was an open question” to uh, “it was open question, this time with a citation”https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1424727534307004418 …

If you're moving the goalposts from "there were not black people living as free citizens" to "not all free black Americans were citizens under the laws of their states," then you've conceded the point. https://twitter.com/jbouie/status/1424726715906076679 …

even by the standards of this website, turning “It was an open question whether the free black people of the United States were citizens” into “The free black people of the United States were not citizens and this was good and right” is pretty incredible.

By discussing the normative status of black Americans in the 19th century, you are somehow causing discrimination to have retroactively occurred It's a phenomenon called Jim Kang

McLaughlin wrote a whole "it's very legal and cool" article about states just appointing presidential electors notwithstanding that his argument is totally antidemocratic, it also completely discounts the 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, and 26th amendmentshttps://www.nationalreview.com/corner/rick-hasens-misleading-account-of-the-article-ii-electors-arguments/ …
