I understand on an intellectual level the forces driving these views but also, just speaking as a person, it's genuinely infuriating to hear anti-renter rhetoric from people who bought their homes 15, 20, or even 30 years ago at a time of broader prosperity and cheaper housing.

God. Me too. And when I point out to some they are living in subsidized housing due to Prop 13, they explode. Many INHERITED the tax basis! Act like they are pioneer settlers who deserve the exemption for life. They couldn’t afford to live there without this subsidy!

Also, it's not all of LA that has this response. People in the wealthy, western and northern suburbs, and older people who bought years ago, maybe. Everyone else is struggling with the sky high prices and rent. Letter writers obv not a representative sample.
