I don't think publishers or journalists have ever fully internalized the degree to which, for a majority of people, friends/family content is a perfectly-acceptable-to-excellent substitution good for traditional news.

(Even slightly more nihilistially, I don't think most publishers/journalists realize the degree to which news as a *concept* is an invention born of the overlap of individual interest and mass-distribution technology, and that FB destroys much of the need for that Venn diagram.)

This is what Snapchat learned from Instagram Snapchat had a great feature first. But the users didn’t *stop* using Instagram. So when Instagram added the same feature... Snapchat didn’t have a chance

Anyone who gets their news “primarily” through* facebook would absolutely not seek it out elsewhere. *No one gets their news “from” Facebook
