I'd be careful of the "Asians support affirmative action" claim. This is a subject where poll results are very sensitive to question wordinghttps://twitter.com/loisbeckett/status/865632673405980672 …

A proposal to end race-blind admissions in CA was killed by Asian American Dem legislators after constituent outcry.http://www.mercurynews.com/2014/03/17/california-asian-americans-show-strength-in-blocking-affirmative-action-revival/ …

CA Field Poll result used to show Asian support for Aff Action had purely positive framing about "helping blacks, women & other minorities"

Anyway, an irony of this as a white resentment wedge issue is these policies mostly reallocate college slots among various minority groups.

Stuyvesant High in New York is 18% white, not much above the school district, which is 16% white. Stuyvesant is 72% Asian.

Affirmative action polls well when the actual policy of using race as an admissions criterion isn't mentioned: http://bostonreview.net/blog/poll-yes-affirmative-action-no-racial-preferences …

I don't love this Gallup question, which posits the alternative to racial preferences is admission "solely on the basis of merit."

Obviously, advocates of racial preferences believe a racial makeup adjusted closer to the total population is meritorious.

Definitely hard, but another Gallup poll found a 31/65 split on approval of Fisher vs. Texas decision:http://www.gallup.com/poll/193508/oppose-colleges-considering-race-admissions.aspx …

It almost universally polls better when framed as 'affirmative action programs' and worse when framed as 'race can be a factor in decisions'
