Yeah, what’s important is that these briefings be about the presshttps://twitter.com/samstein/status/1247295050943549442 …

Not the biggest deal right now, but there continues to be a lack of collective action problem in the press corps when it comes to Trump. When he speaks like that to @jonkarl the other reporters in the room need to call it out, in real time, as counterproductive, offensive, etc...

A whole room full of Jim Acostas, that’s what we need.

Incidentally, we had @jonkarl on @LRCkcrw last week and one of his arguments in his new book is the press needs to resist Trump’s efforts to draw the press into a position where it behaves like an opposition party.https://www.kcrw.com/news/shows/left-right-center/front-row-at-the-trump-show …

The thing I find wild about liberals on Twitter who think the mainstream press is not adversarial enough to the president is that the press is extremely adversarial to the president. The pretense of objectivity is gone. But he continues to be president, thus the press has failed.

The president receives consistently negative coverage and is unpopular. He was unpopular even when economic fundamentals were strong. Negative information about him and his presidency is getting through to the public and affecting public views of him.

The idea that the press needs to spend more time telling the president how counterproductive it is when he is mean to reporters and dismissive of their questions is parochial. It’s the press treating everything as being about the press, which is a temptation people should resist.

What I’ve been saying for quite a while. When the media makes the news about the media, it turns a lot of people against the ... media. So many are cynical, which is not the same as being skeptical.

Agreed. Let Trump’s behavior speak for itself. Reporters are not the story, in fact, Trump’s behavior looks even more childish and unhinged when reporters maintain their professionalism and objectivity.

I have a solution! Have everyone walk in, ask really good questions about issues important to the American people, phrase them just like how you would ask a Democrat in the White House. Rinse. Repeat.

Except they don’t follow up. They just ask the same stupid question in a different way trying to “catch” him. it’s annoying to the observer trying to listen to get educated as well as to the President.
