So it turns out that Trump knew of the first case of community transmission before his Wednesday press conference where he assured the nation that the number of cases would likely drop to zero. Not a good way to build credibility.

Pence says "The President wants us to be certain that our Health Care providers have the support they need to do job & to do their job safely." If that's the case, why isn't he requiring to issue an Emergency Temporary Standard to protect health care workers?

4/4 Pence says we've contracted with 3M for 35,000/month. How long will it take to get to the billions? Do the math.

3/4 4. Public officials have been warned since the early 2000s (H1N5) & again in 2009 (H1N1) that billions of N95s would be needed for a widespread outbreak. We could have had a real stockpile by now

2/4 2. The vast majority of those N95s are so old that they're expired. 3. No one knows (because the equipment suppliers aren't saying) what % of those are manufactured overseas (60-95%), nor how many are made in China. So no one knows how many more are coming.

1/4 Respirators and Masks: Trump says we have "43 million masks, far more than anyone assumed we could have had so quickly, and more are coming." Not reassuring: 1. Of the 43 million, only 12 million are N95s, the rest are less effective surgical masks.

This is the problem when you go on national TV to reassure the country about an impending crisis, but you've lied so much over the past 3 years, that you have absolutely no credibility.

A Czar. What a great idea. Why didn't anyone ever think about this before? Who's it going to be? I think that's obvious: Jared, of course.

In the face of a threat like coronavirus, we count on public officials for neutral, unpoliticized information. But Trump has corrupted everything with his use of government to validate lies and his nonstop war on neutrality. That's combustible. New piece:
