crypto twitter is really the worst. I mainly use twitter to tweet about things I'm interested in: bitcoin, programming. Everytime I post something interesting/new about I get tons of "but derpcoin is so much better and more private". really tiring.

this was mostly just for an analysis of the number of potentially abandoned coins in the early days, but it's cool you can do this without hundreds of gigabytes of extra indices.

one thing I used this for recently was looking at all the balances of all unspent pay-to-pubkey outputs (an old-style output type that is no longer used and doesn't have an address type). I generated a huge list of `pk(keys),...` and got a list of all those balances.

indeed, instead of querying a single-address `addr()`, you can query the balances of hundreds of address at once. this is fast! scantxoutset takes a list of output descriptors. so you can pass in a ranged descriptor with hundreds of xpub addresses, etc.

Regardless of all its other weirdness, if the client was 10x lighter than the slack client (unfortunately this isn’t at all an unreasonable proposition) I think I could get my team to use it instead. But no, it’s... heavier? Amazing.

did you know you can check the balance of any bitcoin address with your fullnode directly without letting other people/servers/explorers know what you're doing. it takes a bit longer than hitting an explorer, but worth it imo.

NEW VIDEO! This equation will change how you see the world... It's about the Logistic Map, bifurcation diagrams, the Mandelbrot set, animal populations, dripping faucets, neuron firing rates and more.

35 years ago today, Richard Feynman's paper "Quantum Mechanical Computers" was published in 𝘖𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘕𝘦𝘸𝘴. I think he'd be surprised and gratified to see everything that his original idea has led to.

Rust is just a better C++. I don't see why I would ever use C++ over Rust. Compile times are great. Performance, type and memory safety are great. I still use C because it's simpler, but Rust is definitely one of my top favorite languages now.

very much so—if people go all the way to buy a hardware wallet, they might want to avoid the software basically leaking their balance+UTXOs to the vendor's server (this is why i think the HWI project is very important)

Somehow got 40 chicken breasts for $15. Made lunches for the next few weeks, only cost me $5. so efficient it brings a tear to my eye.

Pair programming with someone on the other side of the world is actually really good, you can't step on each other's toes. When I wake up I just continue the work that the other was doing and vice versa.

google should monetize topics that are heavily searched but don't have many results. could be useful for content producers?

Two people who collaborate well will be about three times as effective as each of them operating independently, because each will see what the other might miss—plus they can leverage each other’s strengths while holding each other accountable to higher standards.

Was asked by my aunt and uncle (both doctors) to test blood oxygen content regularly, nCov‘s early symptom is very hard to distinguish from regular flu so %SpO2 is a good indicator to test at home They said many regular flu patients panically went to hospitals got infected 😰

I still think this is the main reason why you should learn Haskell. Separating side effects from your pure code brings clarity to your programs, this might be hard to recognize if you're not being forced to by the compiler.

I had an experience recently where I was decomposing/factoring a thousand line js program with 6 levels of callback hell into pure functions, only to realize I could do the same thing with a few lines of code. decomposition/factoring is key to understanding. code is math :D
