In his
#FanCon bio Thai Pham mentioned that he had arranged a convention that brought over acts from Asia which sounds a lot like the cancelled 2015 Akihabara Con

Akihabara Con was sponsored by an “Asian investor” and run by “Michael Pham” after selling tickets and promising multiple international acts the convention was cancelled due to accusations of the CEO misappropriating fundshttps://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-11-18/anaheim-akihabara-expo-convention-cancelled/.95005 …

Has this ever been brought to the attention of the press? If this person has a history of conning others out of kickstarter funds for inaugural conventions, this seems newsworthy & may salvage the reputation of those involved who had no idea about Pham.

As Jaz noted later in the thread, she’s working on a piece about it.

I'm hoping it gets picked up by big outlets with mainstream audiences bc too many folks have had the stool kicked from under them. There are so few cons dedicated to marginalized communities & here's someone taking advantage of it to scam the fans in those communities.

The Fyre festival guy was arrested for fraud. Could happen here.

This is all so tragic. Something with such pure intentions and support going up in flames like this.pic.twitter.com/fyhBVP3AdD

This is so cruel. These cons are SO important to the community.
@GeeksOUT and@FlameCon are offering Sunday passes to anyone who bought Universal#FanCon tickets. Running a convention is tough, but it's important not to disappoint.pic.twitter.com/pMPUSYsAcE

Reading this makes things make so much more sense. And I truly TRULY feel for Jamie because I know they believed in this con, and this person she trusted pretty much killed her dream/rep/etc. They cannot get away with this again.
