My daughter’s name is Klaire, she’s 12. She hates her first name and wants it to be “Ace”. She wants it legally changed. Both her mother and I are against that. I hate it. I said it’d be ok as a nickname but she’s not okay with that. What do I do?

Children do not bear the responsibility of "honoring" a name chosen before they knew who they were. Their job is to live their best life and be true to themselves

Nonsense. Some parents values are bad. Why should a child honour that? I'm a children's author, and I've seen some REALLY bad names out there.

the child didn’t even ask to be here in the first place, the last of their obligations is to “hOnOr a nAmE”

Your thinking is incredibly selfish and misguided, but then again, I'm really not surprised by society anymore. It's all about me, me, me, me, me, what-about-me.

This is so stupid. A child has to honor a name it didn’t choose or want? What’s if the name was Swiffer? Or Lysol? I think 12 might be too young to change their name but no one is obligated to keep a name given to them if they like something else for themselves.
