Random thesis: An institutionalist who cannot accept that the institution is under asymmetrical attack will wind up assisting in that attack innocently— that is, by keeping faith with the values of the institution.

Tough but fair. Does not bring dishonor to Mueller, but alas, is sad.

Absolutely. Some folks in MSMedia are going to keep covering both sides as equally credible, even though 1 side is lies-- until MSM has been totally discredited & destroyed by the party of liars. This is a good article but there is something missing: the increasingly obvious fact that certain people presented as journalists are not journalists at all but propagandists, intentionally manipulating public opinion and destroying faith in the free press.pic.twitter.com/Zg3imC0A5U

Mueller is innocently complicit and yes, assisting in the destruction of America.

Aye. Doesn't seem to be much about purity though and more fear of being called biased if they state an objective fact. Been a long time in the making but this is what Gingrich dreamt of and it stinks

The institutionalist will wind up knowingly assisting in the attack by failing to keep faith in the institution. In fact, the attack will be over as the asymmetrical attackers will have already won. Exhibit A is today's DC press.

I don't think you caught the spirit of my thesis. Or, alt interpretation, I didn't write it well enough.

I've seen institutionalists say we shouldn't call out institutional failure, citing authoritarianism experts who say it's crucial to maintain trust in institutions. But what the experts actually conclude is that we need to defend the institution, not pretend it's fine.

Exactly, you can't just astroturf faith in institutions that are not functioning properly, and think that would work to thwart authoritarianism the same way actually functioning institutions would.
