Hey —The Daily Beast's legal affairs columnist is taking questions now about SCOTUS, religious liberty and LGBT issues in the time of Trump. Ask him anything here:

Just a reminder, per Trump's allegations of voter fraud, that the strongest claims of voter fraud were exhaustively debated in a court of law - and found to be completely groundless. There. is. no. voter. fraud. crisis.

Watching Islamophobic conservatives squirm as points out that religious freedom applies to Muslims too. Wonder if the new Religious Liberty Task Force will protect mosques as much as anti-LGBT evangelicals.

Again, "treason" requires an "enemy." Cyberwarfare is not (yet) war under US law. If we're going to hold Trump accountable for his many violations of the rule of law, we need to respect the rule of law. It's not semantics, it's law.

There's an anti-transgender video that's gone viral (>55m views) on social media right now. Here is a point-by-point refutation of the pseudoscience it presents.

Democrats are arguing that Brett Kavanaugh has too broad a view of presidential power. The opposite is true.

When conservative star pundit Ben Shapiro weighed into the abortion debate, he reproduced Christian denominations’ extremist positions rather than the centuries-long, nuanced, case-by-case Jewish tradition - Opinion

Dems should stick to what works. With 64% of Americans supporting Roe v Wade and with a nominee who has said it was wrongly decided, that is the substantive way to go.

I appreciate 's analysis in WaPo today. Oddly, she seems to conflate extreme fundamentalists like Leonard Leo w/ ordinary Catholics. That is deeply problematic. The issue isn't Catholicism but anti-democratic values, extremism, money, & secrecy.

In my opinion writing (as opposed to reportage), I'm clearly opposed to the nomination on numerous grounds. But the opposition is on the merits; it's refreshing to (strongly) oppose a thoughtful, ethical conservative rather than, you know, Trump or Pruitt.

In other news, I look forward to respectfully and fiercely challenging EPA Chief Andrew Wheeler's policies in the press, rather than writing about how a crazy person is running the EPA.

Interesting possibility that Kennedy is responsible for Kavanaugh.

6/6 Lastly given Leo's own record of Islamophobia, I would invite these critics to reflect on the anti-religious animus in their own communities before accusing others. See Matt. 7:1-3.

5/6 The piece is here. I stand by all of its factual assertions, and also stand against any form of religious bias incl anti-Catholic bias which has a bloody and contemptible history.
