Tomorrow is the last episode of . The show was cancelled abruptly by After 15 years of service, no one was offered reassignment. Management refused to negotiate. They’ve never issued a press release. They are truly disgusting.

I love the energy Zach brought to every day. If he pitches you a story, you better listen. And listen to his Producer Appreciation show!

Take a moment today and tomorrow to consider how lucky and better we ALL are, having had in our lives and airwaves. Toast her, and thank her...and as Joni Mitchell says: you don't know what you got til it's gone. Remember why it mattered. Thank you, Melissa.

I will stand behind you whenever you call, whenever you need it, because you were always there for us, & always would be. The world needs you right now, as one of the great educators of our time. I'm humbled and honored to have been alongside you, friend. Sending all the love.

I will miss you so much, Melissa. I have loved this time. I was ready to give audio up, find a new path...and you came & made it all worth it again. I'm so grateful for that, for restoring my faith in what the medium can do.. I will never forget this era, & how we fought.

It matters because Melissa knows WE matter. All of us. Not a lot of executives in media think about us, anymore, or maybe ever. They don't think about YOU. So when you hear a voice who does? Cherish it. Guard it. Protect it. Love it. Stand for it.

It matters because we need people who talk to us and WITH us, who care about us as humans, not just stats or numbers. It is SO important. It's vital. And we're losing a champion right now who was there for us, every day, no matter how hard.

It matters because we're in some rough times...an era where truth is a scarce item, not only in news, but media in general, and in ALL of our lives. We need people like Melissa, giving us historical context to the new age, and hopefully saving us from making mistakes of the past.

Her work to help this country, this planet, this lifetime....it's been there for ALL of us, for so many years. From TV to speaking publicly to radio and of course her work at Wake Forest, Melissa is a pure and gregarious educator. A teacher for all human-kind. It matters.

But beyond how good her words sound, Melissa delivers truth & empathy with the weight of a neutron star. She battles to find stories of communities that need to be heard. She fights to give a seat at the news table to people that haven't had it. She treats her guests like equals.

It's been an honor to "direct" over the last few years, but honestly, it was really me learning SO much more about the craft than I ever thought possible. I live in a different universe now, regarding how I feel about what's possible w/ a voice & a good, true heart.

Melissa's sense of melody is beguiling and arresting, graceful and glamorous, razor sharp, and yet comforting. Her intros are beautiful symphonies; her ID's warm pillows of sympathy; her interviews, vast worlds of conversation and understanding. Even her promos are song.

I've never seen an on-air talent with such control of her voice and delivery. It blows my mind every single day. has such beautiful confidence in how her sentences should, can, will sound. It's a unique treasure of ability and practice, imitated by no one.

As for her on-air talent ability...the best I can explain it to y'all is that it must have felt this way working with Prince: a virtuoso with such innate skill and grace and style that you almost forget the amazing things they're doing with every note, or every word...

She has, without hesitation, stepped up for us in so many ways, and stood up for us (and you) against powerful people who would see us evaporate off the earth. The value of a fighter in her position cannot be overrated, & it means everything to see someone in power fight for you.

She explains herself when she wants to go in a different direction; she supports and compliments and gives ALL the props to her producers and her team, and she does that every damn day; she leads by example, and never shakes her head at hard work. She never gives up.

Melissa has been nothing but kind, nurturing, and sympathetic to team. She is open to any ideas, and open to hearing when she's wrong. That doesn't happen a lot, but it's so refreshing to work with someone who will change their mind. Again, it's the mark of a leader.

Right off the bat: no host I've ever worked with in 23 years of radio has fought harder for her team, day in, day out. Melissa led this team in so many different ways of defined leadership, but that part is crucial, especially over the last 4 months. That *IS* leadership.

A few words on our fearless leader, our inspiration, our driving force behind the last edition of ...the magnificent . A few words is not nearly enough to express the gratitude, love and appreciation I feel for this woman, but I'm doing it anyways.
