We just saw the culmination of 50 years of unpopular and fringe organizing and protest. It is truly bizarre that the response from so many who say they’re on the side of abortion rights is to play hall monitor and blow the whistle on actions they think will ‘be unpopular’

I’ll just keep saying it. The center right respects protesters and organizing on their side so much more than the center left respects the same on theirs. You never see a Republican repudiate a protest action on their side, regardless of how unpopular bc they see the end game

Whereas the entire center left has been tricked into thinking only of some imaginary group of people who are checking their ‘good protest/bad protest’ scorecard and making sure that the dem establishment lines up w it or else they’re going full MAGA. Come on.

This isn’t some fake fight between ‘Ivy league/online radicalism’ and ‘pragmatism.’ The terms and the framing that’s being presented by the pragmatists are just wrong. And they require everyone to be inert and wait for what exactly?

I mean freedom summer was wildly unpopular with the American public, as most forward thinking movements are https://www.crmvet.org/docs/640706_harris_poll.pdf …

The only thing necessary for evil to win is for the center to tell good that it's overreacting.

Getting the pro-choice supermajority to cohere politically will require some kind of hall monitoring, though. “Safe, Legal & Rare” can win and can protect 99.9999% of abortions. “Peg the Patriarchy” cannot do either.

And I don’t think this is the culmination of anything - it’s two extremely weird lucky breaks on the R column over the past 20 years. It’s still way more of a Dem mess-up than a Republican culmination.
