I had a thing with my English Professor telling me such usage of, "they" was wrong years ago, happy to see this and feeling vindicated now- I also hope to see this be common for MLA as well!

That English professor might wanna talk to Chaucer, Shakespeare, and basically every 20th century writer, then. Since you know. They all used singular they.

Great! Got into a argument with a professor last year because someone I wrote about preferred they. Professor disagreed (she is a psych/counseling professor btw) and said I had to use him/her. I used they are took the marks off. Now I can point to the APA style book next time.

Clearly, they have some deep-seated issues if they deducted points off an essay for that point. Maybe they should seek counseling.

Hopefully this will silence all those pedants who rail aganst singular they because their 4th grade teacher told them it wasn't proper English back in 1962.

We all know it was never about grammatical correctness. Who woulda guessed grammar Nazis were also actual Nazis.

I was always taught in school to use 'he' as the general so I'm glad this is changing it makes so much more sense this way
-
In Russian we also use he. Still pisses me off((((

About time they caught up to Chicago
-
I feel a weird, undeserved tribalistic sense of pride upon learning that Chicago already did this. Like hell yeah, I'm a history major, that's MY citation style.
