Bit of both, Speed helps what transport mode you're in. The dubios 'Improve your location using gps/wifi also when phone not in use'? This creates a travel profile and if enough geo data is there, you can fill traffic forecasts, bus routes and ie restaurant seating forecasts.
Oh, is this how some tiny restaurants/take-away places are always busy on Maps because there's just a bunch of employees with phones there?
Even wonder how Google knows how full a bus is or the peak time of a restaurant in Maps? They partially use collective anonymised data and targeted surveys asking users to provide that info. 'How full is your bus, help others with your info! '
Google Maps is open on all of those phones. I assume it uses the signals of those who are known to be traveling somewhere and have already specified their mode of transport.
Yeah they are taking the speed in consideration..i have seen Google Maps shows yellow color in maps where there is no traffic at all but the roads were too bad and vehicles were not able to move at speed
