    Every blockchain is an experiment. Over time, a chain's identity and narrative becomes clearer -differentiation fuels the experiment. Users have a voice, but they can also exit the experiment and move to a different one. This is the Cambrian explosion we were promised.

    The BCH stuff is hilarious. There’s nothing wrong with a bunch of miners deciding to forfeit a bit of revenue to send funds to a developer fund. Even if in perpetuity, the same blocks still get hashed. If managed well, I see no issue. There’s plenty of other chains to choose from

    I wrote last week that we need more clarity on “sufficient decentralization.” I want to briefly mention a prior example where the SEC listened to industry feedback and replaced a convoluted framework with a clear bright-line rule: namely, Regulation D.

    I think two things are simultaneously true right now. 1. The SEC’s application of securities laws to crypto has been consistent with the principles of U.S. securities laws and existing legal doctrine. 2. We need more specificity on concepts like "sufficient decentralization".

    This is a great point. I've become accustomed to sheepishly admitting that most crypto activity is speculation. But that is true in any financial market. I guess that is what makes MKR-DAI so powerful - it leverages the speculation to produce an asset you want to use.

    95-99% of all trading activity of many economic goods (stocks, debt, commodities, currency) is speculation, with only a small number of the volume directly resulting from fundamental "use." This does not mean speculation is their primary use case. Neither is it true for .
