Gene Park is a great writer, but I get the impression he's going to be a one man show and has been handed the digital age newspaper adage of "do more with less." Seems a shame.

What's going on at the Washington Post?
Publisher & CEO Fred Ryan says recent layoffs are strategic but inside the organization, some people say the business—and he—is floundering.

We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing “the” labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.

Looks like D Light Cafe in AdMo was robbed last night 😔 This is a wonderful spot run some really nice Ukrainians in DC who have done a lot to raise awareness and money for war relief - let’s all make sure to support them when they’re able to reopen.

Riding metro home, guy in suit next to me pulls can of vodka soda out of his briefcase, hands it to the twenty something guy in a hoodie across the aisle who does not appear to be with him. Then, he pulls another one out, they both 🍻 and start drinking in silence.

I gotta say, kudos to Adam Goldman for actually eating a sandwich on the streets of Capitol Hill while James O'Keefe harasses him and calls him names. Does O'Keefe actually think Adam is the one who comes off badly here?
Quote Tweet
It's easy to watch this video of James O'Keefe ambushing an NYT reporter he has nothing incriminating on and think that O'Keefe — recently laying off his employees and still under FBI investigation — is getting a little desperate. youtube.com/watch?v=cM8Uzd

Something good I wanted to share:
The Chronicle now has an in-house therapist, a big step for a newsroom. Thankful our bosses have recognized the toll of our jobs, and have taken real steps to address it.
The importance of these convos among journalists can't be overstated.

A Washington Post journalist told me today's layoffs—and the month that led to it—seemed unnecessary. "I don’t think today’s news inspires any additional confidence in management and how they have handled this."
My story on the layoffs:

We have received no clear explanation for why these layoffs had to happen.
As far as we can tell, they are not financially necessary or rooted in any coherent business plan from our publisher, who has said that he expects the company to be larger a year from now.

Layoffs are hitting WaPo today. The Guild has emailed members: "We have good reason to believe that the number of people affected is far smaller than what Fred Ryan initially alluded to at the town hall."
Guild adds any cuts are "unacceptable" during "time of continued growth."

The letters spelling “KARON” were longer than the casket that held his 13-year-old body. Some of the mourners were too small to see over the pews.
“I’m just angry I can’t grow up with him,” one of Karon Blake’s classmates said.
A devastating funeral:
