JRPG fans — If you, like me, loved Trails in the Sky but thought the Cold Steel saga was a slog, you will really dig Trails from Zero, which comes out next week. I've been playing on Switch every night and enjoying the heck out of it

I've been playing an early copy of Return to Monkey Island (about ~8 hours in) and it's brilliant so far — all the silly jokes and clever puzzles you'd expect in a new Monkey Island game from Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman. And despite the art "controversy" it looks gorgeous

To those who asked: There are several reasons this is a nightmare for Rockstar. One is that it'll disrupt work for a while. Another is that it may lead management to limit work-from-home flexibility. The repercussions of this leak might not be clear for quite a while

Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak is indeed real. The footage is early and unfinished, of course. This is one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games

I’ve been on paternity leave for less than a week and already we’ve seen Breath of the Wild 2 get a name, Toby Ziegler scream at Kratos, Suikoden return for the first time in ten years, and now the biggest leak in Rockstar’s history

Just double-checked and it was not in fact a sleep-deprived hallucination I had last night while feeding a baby; Konami really did announce a Suikoden 1&2 remaster with revamped graphics, new scripts, and a fast forward function. Wow

Well it’d be the most Konami thing ever if they did a whole graphical remake for both games but didn’t even bother to fix the garbled English scripts

A sad and disconcerting contrast this week between video game companies spending billions to show off their goods and video game media companies (G4, Future, Fanbyte) laying off their staff. Best wishes to everyone who lost their jobs or is mired in uncertainty. This sucks!

ODIN: Did you talk to Kratos about the thing? THOR: The thing, sir? ODIN: The thing! With the guy. THOR: Not for nothing, but there are a lot of guys. ODIN: Get your hammer. We're going. THOR: Where? ODIN: To save social security.

That was a good Nintendo Direct. Sucks that the Wind Waker/Twilight Princess rumors keep flopping, but Theatrhythm rules, there's a new Fire Emblem without "Warriors" attached, and May 12 2023 is going to be an all-timer. Hope Octopath Traveler 2 fixes the first game's problems!

We all try so hard to make good parodies of Square Enix's game titles and then they come out with "Various Daylife" how can we possibly compete

If Rhea Seehorn doesn't win an Emmy tonight I will, uh, still never watch the Emmys but I'll be really angry while I don't watch

Anyone else been watching that final Saul Goodman courtroom scene again and again every single day for the past four weeks? No? Just me?

Also some news in this newsletter: On Wednesday, Striking Distance boss Glen Schofield addressed his employees to apologize for his crunch tweet. He said he spent the weekend "learning" and promised to make changes to alleviate crunch on their next project

I know these tweets have been shocking for some, but sometimes we can use humor to find solace during tragic and devastating events, such as the discontinuation of the Dreamcast after less than two years

I've seen a few people get mad about this tweet so I just want to clarify: it's referring to the Queen, who has died, so sadly will not be alive tomorrow when the Dreamcast turns 23 years old (it came out on September 9 1999)
