There are hundreds of private universities on these fields, on the other side, we need more doctors and scientists

Doctors can and should study philosophy and sociology.
-
so study in private universities
-
The purpose of universities has always been to create well-informed citizens. That’s their central purpose in a democracy. But clearly Brazil doesn’t want to be a democracy.
-
Sociology and philosophy don't hire anyone. They are important, of course, but the main goal of the state is to improve the welfare of it's citizens. It is not accomplishing that investing in these two areas.
-
The main goal of education in a liberal democracy is to create a well-informed electorate capable of critical reasoning, which informs their political involvement. Otherwise you don't have a democracy. But maybe Brazil doesn't want to be a democracy.
-
most Brazilian students barely know how to read, write, or do simple math accounts, how do you want them to be "critical" in this way?
-
You invest even more in education - not just universities but also k-12. Raise taxes on the wealthy companies that are destroying the Amazon to fund it.

This is the goal of American conservatives too
-
I don't think real conservatives think like this, but the far-right, yes. And they are taking over the traditionally Conservative party.
-
Killing departments for the sale of killing departments, no, but turning universities into white collar versions of vocational schools is very much a mainstream republican position

Narendra Modi govt recently issued an order curtailing the freedom of choosing research topics by asking PhD students to focus on topics of 'national interest'.https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.scroll.in/latest/917720/kerala-academic-quits-after-hrd-says-researchers-to-pursue-phd-only-on-topics-of-national-interest …

Thank you for this.

Western media and intellectual are simply no clue on the fascist takeover of India. Would be great if you could look more into it.
-
I discuss RSS, BJP, and Hindutva at length in my book How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.

You obviously have no idea of what passes as philosophy and sociology at our public universities, so I'd like you to not meddle in things you know nothing about. Public universities aren't being "branded" as incubators for liberalism and Marxism, this is a true, hard fact.
-
I have many friends in philosophy departments in Brazil. Not a single one is a Marxist. Some teaching Aquinas, others teach analytic philosophy, logic and epistemology. You have no understanding and no clue and have sucked down a massive amount of false propaganda.
-
I must be imagining the walls of our sociology buildings completely plastered with Karl Marx and Che Guevara references, the stench of drugs in the air as well as the anti-Bolsonaro messages on the walls. And any conservative opinion ridiculed and then censored.
-
So let me say once more, YOU DON'T KNOW our situation, you just pretend that your little book applies anywhere and you generalize the conservatives. We, Brazil, are placed among the lowest in educational index, only above the shithole countries.
-
I don’t know about Brazilian sociology departments but I do know far more about Brazilian philosophy departments than you do. Brazil has a distinguished history and present in my area of analytic philosophy, which has nothing to do with Marx.
