Are you trying to draw a comparison between his actions and hers? Because that’s way off.
-
No. But the fact that some people are saying that McEnroe got away with out ever getting a penalty is wrong. I think the ref made a huge mistake with the first call, but I also having been a ref and on the receiving end of tirades know when a line has been crossed.
-
I wonder how many game penalties have been given out to men.
-
If we are involving McEnroe probably more than just the one I linked too. Also he was Ejected from several matches. I'd be curious about it as well, across the demographics. Wonder if the US Tennis Federation has the stats.
-
On a scale of zero to McEnroe, I saw her behaviour at a 2. That, for me, is a problem. I believe he had other options he should have taken. I’m not a tennis rule expert by any means. I do remember the McEnroe days.
-
Zero to McEnroe.

I remember many of the rants by Connors and McEnroe. They were viewed as entertainment and most likely, more viewers were drawn to watching their matches because of their explosive behavior. What I DON’T remember is hearing lots of criticism aimed towards them for it.
-
McEnroe wasn't criticised? He was public enemy number 1! I remember hearing that he was a disgrace to tennis and should be banned and shouldn't be allowed to play at Wimbledon. I have a vague recollection of him being disqualified. He was widely criticised, for 10yrs or more.
-
He also was extremely aggressive, hostile and vulgar. No comparison between his behavior and Serena’s.
-
He also stepped into very lucrative post-competition careers in broadcasting & movies. His displays of anger never cost him any of the respect he won w/ his talent, and I think his bad temper enhanced his brand and post-tournament

Exactly.

She was robbed and her opponent, a deserving champion, deserved an amazing celebration of her first grand slam victory. What a travesty and in the case of Ramos, what an a-hole.

Have you ever seen a young, completely dominant in the final match, completely unexpected winner get booed because she did nothing wrong other than beat someone who was not playing as well as she was?
-
She did NOT get booed. Not once. The crowd was booing the officials. Even before Serena said anything to the crowd, it was crystal clear that the boos weren’t for Naomi. When the ref started speaking: boos. When he said her name: wild applause.
-
I don't think that registered on Osaka. Her amazing celebration was gone...forever. I can't imagine the pressure she felt during Serena's behavior on court, then had to continue to play out the match that she had so obviously won already.
-
The game was not obviously won yet. We have seen Serena come back from similar positions. The Ref ruined it for Osaka and all fans. He should have warned Serena to stop berating him or she would get a game fault. No warning. Rafa said he will not play with this ref. Enough said.
-
He's an ump not a ref. Serena came back from US Open match like in 09 and 11?
-
I know what a chair umpire is.
