intense people need to be around other intense people in order to validate their intensity of feeling and abnormal but not necessarily dysfunctional expressions of it

Apparently Amazon sells tiny homes now. For $30k, you can buy a WHOLE HOUSE, plop it in your backyard, and start making a profit off Airbnb after like 8 months. []()

In what ways do you want to be as prolific and creative as Jacob is for music? Provocative essays? Startup ideas? Jokes? Formative memories? How might you study/consume that category of thing and map out its history? Hmm.

On inspiration: "I listen to two whole records a day. I hope that, by the time I graduate college, I'll have most of the last 50 years mapped out. It plants things in your peripheral vision, and when you're creating, they just occur to you" -

    5. Counting calories with MyFitnessPal for a month at 29. Max effort, medium results. I only lasted like 4 days. I just can't abide looking at my phone this often. 6. 18 hour fasts twice/week: low effort, great results! Nice!

    4. Eating only fish and eggs for a month at 28. Max effort, scary results. I lost 1% bodyfat per week, which is fairly unhealthy. This diet came from a bodybuilder friend.

    2. Cooking paleo for a year at 24. Poor results, high effort. 3. Living on Soylent for a month at 27. Poor results, low effort, unless you consider the amusement of my family via TMI Facebook posts a notable result.

Here's how the results-to-effort ratio compares to the long chain of weird diets I've experimented with: 1. GOMAD (gallon of milk a day) diet for a month at 20. Good results, low effort, because I looove milk. I gained 10lbs of muscle in a month, but I also got fat.

Verbal recall starts to suffer around hour 18, which took me a few weeks to notice. If you want to read more, check out my experimental notes:

My findings: Hangry Levels peak at around 5 out of 10 on fasting days, which is noticeable but not overly distracting. Hangriness doesn't steadily increase in intensity throughout the day like I feared. My energy levels are consistently higher on fasting days.

I wasn't particularly unhappy with my weight, either - I've just noticed that my weight tends to creep up by 1lb/month when I'm not paying attention, so I'm always passively looking for lower willpower ways to manage weight.

Whelp. I've lost about 10lbs and 2% bodyfat in the last 6 weeks by fasting 2x/week. I haven't otherwise changed my diet or lifestyle at all.

(1/4) Learning ML engineering is a long slog even for legendary hackers like . IMO, the two hardest parts of ML eng are: 1) Feedback loops are measured in minutes or days in ML (compared to seconds in normal eng) 2) Errors are often silent in ML

The admissions team at Lambda has more-than-doubled in size since I joined, and my #1 OKR is to write documentation for every process in the department. Increasingly convinced that the ability to write good documentation is a superpower.

Which has me thinking: what would a city-based long-term living community have to provide to survive this transition into school-age children without its residents feeling forced to move out of the city?
