HTTPS is the way to go -- with any HTTP requests automatically redirected to HTTPS.

I will also add that having an https enforced site will help the page rank of the site within Google's index.
Yes, the page rank is also alluring. I'm glad Google did that to entice people. So, absolute no reasons to not have HTTPS?

The only thing I can think of is compatibility issues with extremely old browsers or old browsers lacking certain root certificates.
