In the early / mid 90s when passenger airbags were first becoming more common, child deaths increased due to airbags deploying with the child car seat in front. When people moved them to the back, deaths by heatstroke climbed because parents sometimes forgot they were back there.

Interesting. However it's also not unlikely that summers became hotter and so shorter durations in the car more deadly?

Interesting. Would be interesting to see if it plays a huge part since closed windows can make a car very hot even in the spring time. Maybe seasonal data would be better here?
