In order to help curb abuse, daily dumps will only be available to those who register and have a bonafide use case that is either academic / research / NGO or non-profit use.

We are creating a key management system so that every user who uses the API endpoints will register for a key. This key will continue to give you academic access to various data endpoints. You will be able to track your usage with your key as well as get much better documentation

Absolutely! Some of the most interesting research I've seen was outside a formal academic setting. I support independent research as much as possible and it is absolutely a valid use case for access to the data.

If the registration system gets complicated, one idea for a "public daily dump" would be to make it metadata-only (sans body). It cuts on the most obvious forms of abuse but retains much of its usefulness.
