The lack of basic scientific knowledge in US society is pretty large. This question (at least in my opinion) is pretty easy to get right simply because the incorrect answers are magnitudes off. But anyone who paid attention to the Mars Rover program probably heard at some point

I know this because I have the 8-minute statistic in my head for the time taken for light to reach Earth from the sun so I can extrapolate, so I see how people who haven't come across that stat would be a bit lost.
