Could someone quickly explain to me why Belarus is involved in this? Is Belarus basically a puppet state now? That kind of threw me for a loop but I don't follow geopolitics in that area as much.

“Is Belarus basically a puppet state now?” - kind of always has been. Minsk (which I have never been to, but I have family members who have) is regarded as the “most Soviet city” in former USSR. Lukanhesko was nearly driven out of office and his Baltic neighbors despise him

Yeah, absolutely terrible. I am sure that whatever is going on behind the scenes is even weirder. Putin looks unhealthy, and his national security meeting the other day seemed like the response to a coup attempt. Welcome to 2022, I guess.

Putin is an odd one, and I don’t really understand what Russian people see in him. I do believe that his strongest support is from members of “Brezhnev generation” - there are a lot of older Soviet-raised people who revere Brezhnev

My own theory is that the Mossack Fonseca leak showed that Putin fleece a lot of money from taxpayers - but no where near the levels the people speculated about. I think that the disclosure that he stole so relatively little actually weekend him
