Could someone quickly explain to me why Belarus is involved in this? Is Belarus basically a puppet state now? That kind of threw me for a loop but I don't follow geopolitics in that area as much.

“Is Belarus basically a puppet state now?” - kind of always has been. Minsk (which I have never been to, but I have family members who have) is regarded as the “most Soviet city” in former USSR. Lukanhesko was nearly driven out of office and his Baltic neighbors despise him

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sviatlana is widely seen as the legitimate leader in opposition. Lukanhesko is grooming his son to take over (Middle Easter style)

Lukanhesko is an interesting character - here he is with Steven Seagal. A huge Soviet stereotype for “strong men” is chomping on carrots

Yeah Seagal just got super weird since his peak in the 80s.
