pan out like that. Instead we got into a situation where technology was advancing faster than society's ability to understand the ramifications of disinformation spreading to the masses and causing immense problems.

While social sites been around since the 90s, it really blew up with Facebook. It was cool to be on FB back then cause you could only get an account if you had a college email account. But that made the user base young, dumb and easy to influence so it was easy to control culture
