I am really curious how a live round ends up on a movie set where guns are being used as props.

Blanks ARE live rounds. Basically the same cartridge with a bit of cardboard stuffed where the bullet should be. If something else winds up in the barrel, it can be ejected with force similar to bullets.
The bullet catch illusion has killed magicians because of this principle.

In this situation, they are reporting that a "live round" (not a blank) was loaded in the weapon. So whatever terminology should be used here, what I meant is that a non-blank bullet was apparently loaded in the prop.

Perhaps I'm misreading what is being reported and misinterpreting what "live round" means in this situation. What do you call a non-blank bullet if live round doesn't cover it?
