Nah, WhatsApp is way more important. When the TV is down, people are annoyed, but when their telephone stops working, they become concerned.

I do not find it very surprising - I believe much more people use WhatsApp messenger than Facebook itself.

Not unexpected. In most of the world WhatsApp is the primary app people use for one to one and small group communication. Facebook gets the big headlines for political influence but WhatsApp is the big kahuna in terms of day to day impact for most folks globally.
