Is there ANY possible method to send a signal through the Earth at the speed of light (say from NYC to Toyko) even if the payload is only a couple of bytes?

No. The molten core blocks all radio signals. You maybe can resonate a radio signal with Earth magnetic field with the correct hardware, but I don't think it exist.

Tesla had this idea of using the Earth's core as an antenna.
