I am still trying to diagnose the issue with the Verizon FIOS Quantum router. There are latency spikes every 10-15 seconds where the router refuses to route anything. After some research, it appears it may be due to a memory leak in the OS or a NAT table that is too small.

It is super annoying because it causes latency spikes for the Pushshift API where a simple request will hang for 2-4 seconds. I tried rebooting the router, etc. -- it looks like a firmware issue so far.

Can always try OpenWRT on the old router if you think it's a firmware issue.

Is the WAN from the optical network terminal (ONT) connected to the router via ethernet? Or coax? If ethernet, you could easily swap the provided router with a higher quality router, eg a ubiquiti edgerouter

If coax, you could set the verizon router to bridge mode and let another router do the work. Then you could have more control over NAT table and tcp/udp NAT timeouts
