Additional info: these aren't user accounts but some of the most popular bots, and accounts "managed" by the platform (like, well, u/reddit and u/automoderator). It's not the API (see pic). Could it be a default value?

Reminds me of a few years ago when automod had its karma reset to 0 because it caused issues. My guess is they just forced the karma on these bots to be static in order to not crash reddit like before.
