Misinformation / Disinformation is everywhere on the internet -- even from prestigious news organizations such as the BBC. This is a minor mistake, but still wrong. The star Sirius is actually 8+ light years from Earth and not 4.

I'd say that pretty much the consensus among academics is that no news outlet is free of errors, but it's more a question of what they do about it, how often it happens and at what level of severity.
